The citizens of Ward #1 will have finally had heir voices heard!
The City of Mineral Wells confirmed Wednesday evening that the petition to recall city council member of Ward #1, Jerrell Tomlin, was successful. Mr. Tomlin has an option to either vacate the seat immediately or to have the citizens vote him out in a recall election. (We recommend that he bow out peacefully. )
He only received 137 votes to win his last election and 571 signatures to get him out.
Wow! We the people have voiced our first opinion of this city council. Citizens are sick and tired of the poor management of their city and want better representation.
The city clerk initially denied the petition stating that there were not enough signatures but the Texas election code was on the side of the citizens. They also wanted to include ALL registered voters, including suspended and cancelled citizens ie. people who have moved away over 4 years ago and or dead people.
The Texas election code clearly states that you can only include “qualified voters”. The citizens of Mineral Wells needed 25% of “qualified voters” to get the petition through and we did it!
We are waiting to see how the City Council will respond. Stay tuned by signing up for our email list HERE!
So proud of everyone involved in this effort. It took everyone using their gifts to get it done. Special thanks to Terri Glidewell who started this recall petition and is the champion of We the People of Mineral Wells on Facebook.
